Since 1978, Working Against Violence, Inc. (WAVI) has been committed to providing survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault temporary emergency shelter, food, and supportive services.

By offering the Black Hills a safe shelter for women, children and men, we ensure a brighter future for all of those in our community.

We will happily accept the items from our Shelter Needs List at our backdoor, please call our office at 605-341-3292 when you arrive and a staff member will gladly greet you to accept your donations. You can also ship items directly to WAVI at 527 Quincy St, Rapid City, SD 57701.

Shelter Needs List

Our needs have changed. At this time, WAVI is seeking donations of: Paper products suchs as toilet paper, facial tissue and paper towels, adult back packs, duffel bag, suitcases, NEW twin and full sized sheets, NEW underwear, socks & sports bras for women and children, plain black, grey or white t-shirts and sweatshirts, plain black leggings, plain athletic shoes or tennis shoes, notebooks, conversation sized notebooks for journaling, blue/black ink pens, lice shampoo, FULL size shampoo, conditioner and bodywash, new combs and brushes, elastic hair ties, monetary gifts, gift cards, food, gas cards, and bus passes. Our ADA compliant, drug and alcohol free shelter is open 24/7 to provide a safe haven for women and children survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. We also provide assistance with:

  • Safety planning
  • Domestic violence education
  • In-shelter children’s program
  • Community referrals

Help WAVI in ensuring there are resources available for those affected by sexual assault and domestic violence by donating or volunteering today. We also have a weekly needs list for items needed at the shelter, which is updated regularly.

Reminder about donations: Due to security and safety, please do not leave donations without speaking to someone. We ask that you use the back entrance to drop off donations. We also have limited space for storage, so if you have a large donation, please call ahead.
