Since 1978, Working Against Violence, Inc. (WAVI) has been committed to providing survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault temporary emergency shelter, food, and supportive services.
By offering the Black Hills a safe shelter for women, children and men, we ensure a brighter future for all of those in our community.

We will happily accept the items from our Shelter Needs List at our backdoor, please call our office at 605-341-3292 when you arrive and a staff member will gladly greet you to accept your donations. You can also ship items directly to WAVI at 527 Quincy St, Rapid City, SD 57701. Thank you!
Shelter Needs List
Due to current construction we are limited on space. We will happily accept the following at this time: lice shampoo, FULL size conditioner, shampoo, and body, new combs and brushes, infant Tylenol/Motrin, monetary gifts, gift cards, food, gas cards, and bus passes. Thank you for understanding and thank you for your support.

There are many warning signs of abuse, with some being more obvious than others. If you feel that you are experiencing abuse, it is likely that you are. Learn more about domestic violence and sexual assault in order to better assess your situation and get the help you need and deserve.

Our ADA compliant, drug and alcohol free shelter is open 24/7 to provide a safe haven for women and children survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. We also provide assistance with:
- Safety planning
- Domestic violence education
- In-shelter children’s program
- Community referrals

WAVI regularly hosts events that educate the community about domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as provides resources for survivors. Click the button below to learn more about upcoming gatherings.
Help WAVI in ensuring there are resources available for those affected by sexual assault and domestic violence by donating or volunteering today. We also have a weekly needs list for items needed at the shelter, which is updated regularly.
Reminder about donations: Due to security and safety, please do not leave donations without speaking to someone. We ask that you use the back entrance to drop off donations. We also have limited space for storage, so if you have a large donation, please call ahead.
